Alessandro Riedle, son of former world class striker and 1990 World Cup winner Karl-Heinz Riedle, will move from Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zurich to VfB for the start of the new season on a two and a half year contract.

Three goals this season
A number of clubs had shown an interest in Riedle, who made his debut for the German ‘Under 18’s’ last week, but VfB were eventually able to secure the promising youngsters signature. Last season in Switzerland’s Axpo Super League, the 17 year old scored three goals in ten appearances.

“A great deal of potential”
VfB sporting director Horst Heldt: “I’m delighted that he and his father have chosen VfB. The youngster possesses a great deal of potential and I am very sure that he will develop very well here.” Alessandro Riedle will be slowly introduced into the first team squad and he will participate in the pre-season training camp with the rest of the professional squad in Donaueschingen.
