Fiorentina coach punches his own player

No Comments 04 May 2012

I’m sure many managers have been frustrated with their players enough to think about getting physical for their sloppiness or lack of motivation – picture being Mancini and Tevez refusing to go warm up for a sub. However Mancini did not end up physically assault Tevez but Fiorentina coach Delio Rossi did just that. Fiorentina player Adem Ljajic was subbed off during today’s match and proceeded to give a sarcastic thumbs up to the coach who responded by going at the player and launching some blows. Delio Rossi was sacked by the club shortly after.

Geoff Shreeves lets Ivanovic know he won’t be in the final

No Comments 25 April 2012

The Champions League Final is certainly a highlight game in any player’s career, and it most definitely would have been for Ivanovic. Unfortunately for the Chelsea centre-back he picked up one too many yellows and will be forced to miss the final as a result. This is a bit heartbreaking for Ivanovic who was a bright spot in Chelsea defensive efforts giving his all. Geoff Shreeves makes a point of letting him know that he will indeed miss the final during the post-match interview, a little cruel Geoff.

Why Di Matteo is the right man for Chelsea

1 Comment 24 April 2012

In the last two months there has been a sort of revolution at Stamford Bridge with Roberto Di Matteo leading it. On March 4th 2012 Andre Villas-Boas (AVB) was sacked and the assistant manager, Di Matteo, was appointed as caretaker manager with low expectations. The team was just coming off a lose to West Bromwich Albion, had serious dressing room problems, and was down 3-1 to Napoli in the Champions League last 16. It seemed that Di Matteo’s job was just to try to keep Chelsea alive, and save as much embarrassment as possible until another managerial candidate could be found. Oh boy did he deliver as Chelsea look like a force to be reckoned with and we reckon that Di Matteo should remain in charged.

Genoa Ultras halt play and force players to remove their shirts

1 Comment 24 April 2012

We have all been there; our beloved team is putting on a weak performance and we’re cursing them “they are not worthy of wearing our colours!” Of course we could never imagine that the players and club would actually give in to our demands but Genoa proved us wrong this week with a game in Italy’s Serie A. Genoa were losing 4-0 when in the 53rd minute Genoa Ultras halted play but throwing fireworks onto the pitch. Genoa Captain Marco Rossi tried to calm things down but going over to negotiated but the ultras demanded that their entire team remove their jerseys as they were unworthy of sporting the club colours. The players actually accepted, and tears flowed from a few players as they removed their jerseys.

El Classico – Who will win it?

1 Comment 21 April 2012

A little while ago Real Madrid were sitting comfortably ahead of Barcelona by 10 points in La Liga. It was looking more and more like they were about to put an end to Barcelona’s domination of the league with three consecutive titles under their belts, but oh my how the tables have turned.

In just the last few weeks Barcelona have picked up huge momentum with big wins while Los Blancos continued to draw games. As a result Madrid’s lead has been slashed down to just four points, leaving the title race completely open. Continue reading “El Classico – Who will win it?” »

Finland has talent!

2 Comments 20 April 2012

Finland is rarely heard about in the footballing community, let alone it’s premier league, but that might soon change. Seventeen-year-old Joel Pohjanpalo has long been considered a talent in his home country and recetnly he was given the chance at his club’s opening league game. The youngster proceeded to net a natural hat-trick with a header, left and right foot, goal and he did it in just 2 minutes and 42 seconds. HJK Helsinki certainly have a hot talent on their hands!

$250 million and R. Madrid still failed to win El Classico

No Comments 10 April 2010

Well its true, all the money in the world can still not buy you trophies. The team spent 140 million on just Kaka and Ronaldo, with  the latter being 80 million alone. This acquisition added to the very impressive line that already includes starlets such as Ramos, Casillas, Raul, Alonso, Pepe, and many more. However not all is bad, Real Madrid still sit second in La Liga, and ahead of the pack by a good chunk of points. But it is not who they are in front of but who they are behind, Barcelona that is important to note here. Continue reading “$250 million and R. Madrid still failed to win El Classico” »

Why Wolfsburg is middletable this season

No Comments 07 April 2010

How is it that the 2008-2009 Bundesliga champs are sitting middle table far from from even Champions League position, this season?  There are a few reasons for the lack of success; Felix Magath quit as manager, Grafite has been nowhere near his level of performance, and defensively the team has completely broken down.

The squad has not changed that much from the team that Felix Magath had put together to win the league, but Magath himself is no longer present. His departure from the club raised many concerns from the players, with key contributors such as Misimovic and Dzeko threatening to leave the club over his departure. Could his leaving really be the contributing factor to Wolfsburg lack of success this year? Continue reading “Why Wolfsburg is middletable this season” »
